Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Support Group
Find support with others who have gone through a traumatic experience. Whether you have chronic or acute PTSD, we are here for you.
I have posted a few things on here already and honestly it's been bits and pieces of my story. I would like to share with you all more of my story for a better understanding of things. I am new here and feel that if we are all gonna be on the same team and support each other then just maybe if I told my story it may touch someone or even help someone through their struggle.
My story
I was diagnosed with PTSD several years ago I went many years woth it not being yreatex. I pushed and pushed things way deep inside and now things are over flowing. It's kind of like filling a glass of water and leaving the water running. That water then over flows and it spills out. That's the point I'm at right now.
When I was five I started to be abused it wasn't bad just little things here and there. When I was seven I started to get sexually abused by my grandfather. By the time I was sixteen I was pregnant t twice abused by several people in my family. I lost my ex in a drunk driving accident and then went into the Marines. I have PTSD from all of that. At this point I am going through another drama with my ex. So that does not help at all.
I took medical leave because my PTSD got so bad I couldn't bare being anywhere without having a panic attack. Just like many of you on hete I struggle day to day with flashback urges anxixtey and more. I finally got help the help I needed.
Where I'm at now
I just began working with a therapist so alot of things are scary and new to me learning how to cope and ground myself while being a single mom of three has been a struggle. But through all this I still have hope.
This is why I have hope.
I have the hope that I can get through this because I remind myself everyday of my three wonderful kids. I have hope because I vsn come here and write and feel like I will not be judged that people understand and supportive. I have hope because I read a positive thing every day all though my days have been rough I still remind myself of all this and it gives me the strength to get through the next hour of my life.
Last thing I like to share and I think every one needs to read this once in awhile.
7 rules of life
Let it go never ruin a good day by thinking about a bad yesterday
Ignore them don't lisyen to other people live a life empowering to you
Give time it may not seem like it but time can heal everything
Don't compare the only person you should try to beat is the person you were yesterday
Stay calm its ok to not have everything figured out know in time you will get there
It's all on you only you are in charge of your happiness
Finally smile life is short so enjoy all that you can
How early your abuse began in your childhood is familiar to me. Mine began at the breakfast table when I was 5 years old, and went on weekly until I left home at the mid year of high school when I was 17.
Those 7 rules of life you shared here reinforce what my therapist has been telling me, especially the rule about learning not to compare, to beat who you yourself were yesterday instead.
On your other thread you mentioned having to cope with flashbacks until Monday when you are to stand up for your daughter in court with your ex. I posted therapist Pete Walker's 13 steps for managing flashbacks for you just as practical help to get there from today.

As I said there, when I first came to DS PTSD members here shared them with me, so I pass them on every chance I get.
Sending you support and strength today.
Thank you for sharing more of your story. 5 y/o children are developing their pictures of themselves and the world based on the family they are in. You have cPTSD because of this. You have begun your healing journey, which is the most important part. You are choosing this journey, which will benefit you and your children. Many of us with cPTSD learn to pretend we are OK and act accordingly. Stay focused on your goal for Monday. Decide that the FBs will just have to wait until you leave the courtroom. Supportive and calming hugs.
