My s/0's grandfather is dying painfully FF/TW
I've been blessed since retiring to Mexico to have met a lovely signficant other here. Let's call her Susan, though that's not her real name as I guard her anonymity. I hadn't had a single date for 10 years, and wasn't looking. Circumstances brought us together through a mutual friend. My contact with Susan began with her coming to my home as my home health care aide. Twice last year through ointments, soaking my feet, and all kinds of other work on me Susan got me up out of a wheel chair and walking again. She just did it again last month.
Susan's family lives 3 blocks away from me and so I see her mom whom I'll call Cathie, though that's not her real name, either, and I guard her anonymity. Cathie and I are friends, she's not the nosey mother in law to me. About once a week she comes over in the evening for coffee and brings a couple of the grandkids along to watch Netflix movies. For someone who didn't have a date for 10 years, it's great to have Susan plus her family in my life now.
However, Cathie's father just got gravely ill. He's 85 and has diabetes. I'm 65 and I have diabetes, too. His diabetes just took a dramatic negative turn, though. He went blind in both eyes last week. Now he's just barely hanging on.
Susan is at his side with her mom Cathie, and basically all they can do now is observe a death watch. He's in a LOT of pain, and privately Susan and I have said to each other that we just wish the Good Lord would take him once and for all so he wouldn't suffer any more. I used to be a hospital chaplain, so I saw about 2,000 patients die during my career. However, just like when I helped my mother through her breast cancer treatment, it's different when it's your family. And these folks are like my own family now.
Support welcome, and if any of you are in the practice of praying, prayers are welcome, too. Gracias.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

the mantra i, personally, use for providing this kind of support for my loved ones is, "ears open, mouth shut. just be here."
let god lead the dance.
small steps, big faith and lots of prayer.
We're with you in heart. Let them know, okay? And PM me anything specific we can send in the care package.
THere to hold both your hands in soul if not in bodyl.
That's disturbing
Here he could have a nurse for end of life care..... This is really sad... I am sorry to read that he's suffering so much... Another hug and a prayer Muji... xo
Today my s/o's sister in law whom I'll call Joan (not her real name) had her mom Mrs. Allison (not her real name) go in for her second cancer surgery in the last 6 months. My s/o and I were there for her first surgery. When she came out it painful, too, as the palliative care meds became less effective over time. Mrs. Allison is a frail little lady up in years. I was afraid she might not pull through today's second surgery but she did.
Lots of the elders in my new Mexican family are in critical health. I'm grateful I'm not, and very mindful that it could be me. The silver lining is that I see how my new Mexican family pulls together to support their elderly loved ones when their health goes bad on them. That's really comforting to me as to the great support they give me, too.
The gentleman had another grinding day, poor guy. It's really hard on my significant other's mom to see her dad like this. Support and prayers for tomorrow very welcome.
As for the sister-in-law's mom, she got through her second cancer surgery yesterday but today she was depressed and refused to eat.
Support welcome, and prayers from those who practice praying welcome, too. Thanks.
