Last year's wedding parade has morphed into this year's baby showers. I am feeling huge guilt over missing the first of them this past weekend. I feel even guiltier for my intention to miss as many of them as I can. I might even look for a way out of the one scheduled to meet at my house for my first grandbaby. I am barely keeping my lunch down listening to the plans. Even the thought of going stimulates my martyr complex.
Anybody have any mantras for countering guilt feelings?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
It is the Mrs celebraions I am gagging on.
Please don't make me play Barbie.
I do like babies but i dont like much babie showers.
Im in the same positions like you, it is some celebration at my parents house and at my sister house too this week and next, i already feel guilty because just idea to go there, and it is my family, get's me into anxiety and i do not know how im going to do it, because im expected to be there
And im going to try to do same as i gave suggestion for you, set my mind for going, hope it will work for actual days, until then im not going to think much about family gatherings
What might happen if you plan to meet w/ the pregnant mom separately to tell her you are happy the baby is coming?
Offering your place for the party could be made separate than you having to be there to host/ess such an event. If prospective mom is loving family or family-in-law member she should understand you well enough to not corner you about this.
You are entitled to your boundaries. These sort of events make me gag - and I love babies too.
When i have to attend something i really..oh, i was just at a polynisian show (YUCK)....yeah a glass of wine made it so i did not say "get these girls shaking their arse off my face right now and ran out of there!"
So far my most effective mantra so far is, "The heart goes where it goes."
I can't help disliking the Mrs trip any more than the Mrs's can help loving it.
At least I don't have to smell anybody's hind end, uno. I don't drink much, but I might see about introducing introducing a wet bar to the Mrs events. A stiff drink might, indeed, help.
ohh, I guess I see more of what you mean by the Mrs thing. I never had to do that. I think I went to one shower one time. I think I just tell them I can't make it. lol I go to wedding services but tend to not go to receptions.
It became known as, "The Mers Lesson." The pun potential is irresistible...
Even with advanced students, it was dangerous to explain the etymology. The Mrs's of our country are generally touchy about being called, Mistress. The Mers Lesson is, "Write this, say this and never question." Sums the Mrs logic for my twisted mind...
Then we get to the plural... Would two Mrs's be MissUses or Missi?
Okay, okay... I'll quit my Miss Behaving now...
take care of yourself first.
everybody else takes care of themselves first.
