First time using this site but I feel like I just need to let out all my thoughts and feelings, I ended a 6 month relationship that ended up being abusive. I met him online and when we hung out a couple of times he seemed really cool until we started dating. He tried to control what I did, wouldn't let me see my friends or let me be on my phone. He called me names and when I tried to end things he would threaten me and would sometimes put his hands around my neck, it got so bad to the point where I called my best friend and I ended up having to be physical in order for me to try to leave because he would stand at the door. It's been about 4 months since we broke up but I notice I was experiencing a lot of PTSD. My boyfriend who has been my best friend for years is trying to help me get over this but I can't seem to let go. Is there any suggestions on what I can do besides going to a therapist?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Only then will you be able to start working with your emotional situation. Safety first. That alone will de-escalate your heightened emotions. Find a PTSD Support group besides online where you can talk about the situation with other people in your area who may be able to help you. Prayer support groups also can help with the fear and anxiety stemming from this threat and action. Get back to me on how this goes for you so I can share further steps after you are totally safe physically.
Self-diagnosis is dangerous business. I don't recommend it.
As for getting over a bad relationship. . . Support groups abound. There is a "Divorce and Break-ups" forum right here on DS. Peer support definitely helps.
I am glad to hear back from you. I agree with what has been said by others in their replies.
Glad to hear you went to your doctor but please reconsider reporting this to the police. If this person ever moves back into the province where you live or ever does "show up" again, then there is already a written document filed with the police that is so necessary as a form of future protection as well. The police then also have a record they can refer to about this person. You also don't know who else this person may have harmed so the police may have other files or complaints and can keep a watch on this person or notify other police in other provinces. Fortunately things did not escalate and become worse for you but who knows what may happen to someone else this person is with now. They may need your voice as a witness to the tendencies and violence you experienced.
I have more to share but get back to me on what you think now about reporting this to the police now that you have read my reply here. You can tell the police that you want them to have this documented. We are all standing with you!!
