I walk with a lot of pain on my cane these days. Kidney disease keeps me from being able to take PTSD meds. It also has killed my nerved endings in my feet to where I walk on live bruises on the soles of them.
So it was AGONY to go to the city today, ride the subway, and go to an NFL game. All my myself, too. The 1 mile walk from the subway station to the stadium took an hour each way, with thousands of people streaming past me while I hobbled alone on my cane.
But when I got there, the people in my row--total strangers--turned out to be nice. Our team won! At the end, my face hurt from smiling so much. My new friends all said goodbye with smiles and we high fived each other.
Then I hobbled back in slow AGONY on my cane while thousands of departing fans streamed around me. But I did it, and I did it on my own. I'm so glad I did, and so proud.
Every step I thought of you friends and my DS PTDS support, and how you'd be pulling for me to get out of the house with my PTSD and do something out there in the world for myself.
I hurt, but as they say, no pain no gain. Anybody else faced some pain for some gain lately?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Have you thought about a different walking aid perhaps for these long ventures you love going on? I think they have one called the go-go folding scooter you can take on the subway or bus with you and it folds into the trunk. I was looking at these for myself to be honest so that I can go to events like the state fair with my horrible fibro flares. I know our stadium has lockers and you can store it in there and they go on the plane also. Just an idea to save your footies?
As always we are pulling for you!
Mentally I feel better today, but the last two days the pain in my hips has been terrible. No gain yet here! Ha!
Now soak them feet, rub some arnica on them, and treat yourself to a special DS PTSD ((((((MUJI))))))
No pain no gain? Dunno. Can't feel my right leg too well at all right now, but.... I visited with my in-laws this weekend, and even discussed how I got my PTSD in general terms, and it was cool, they reacted very mellow, and that was not so much pain as fear, but hey, couldn't do it without DS PTSD and y'all:-)
Go Muji!
It doesn't surprise me that you did it, because that's your style. But I'm so glad to read about it and touched that you brought us along with your triumph!
I think everything's relative, but I also think that it's our duty to push ourselves because it could always be worse and when we push, it makes us stronger.
My pain/gain? Not as dramatic, but I've been back running since being hospitalized twice in June/July for sepsis/Lyme.
I get sooooo tired the day after, but at least I'm doing it. I go to my doctor today for a checkup and I have to update her. She'll most likely say my fatigue is from me pushing it, but I KNOW I'd not be able to say that I'm running 15-20 miles a week had I not just put on my big girl panties and got out there.
I'm also flying solo with my family over in Turkey and I'm trying not to be anxious and instead, be productive, sober and happy.
You just inspired me to keep at it.
HUGS!
Just sore. Spine giving me trouble at the usual locations.
They did not use a full crew, so yesterday I was grateful to have the day to ice my back and veg out.
Need to get back in shape!
Good for you... You are an inspiration to so many of us Muji... Bless you my friend and thank you... I'm so glad you had such a nice time despite your suffering....xo
I find that my chronic pains are miserable, wherever am, whatever I do. I can lay around and wallow in those pains, or I can hobble my way through participating as fully as I can in this amazing world we live in.
Great inspiration, muji. Hobble on, good buddy.
SC, yeah, my feets are in recovery now. I actually got a blister on a toe! I'm kind of proud of it, even though it hurts. Shows I was out there.
Good luck with the wood working, dragon, Man, that neck pain sounds tough.
Thanks for the scooter idea, Doo. I've never done one of those, but I did rent a Segue for a day last year. Wow, was that cool!
Yeah, Leo, when the team won, it was like I won, too. Very cool moment.
Hey, blue, tell us some haunted house stories from your weekend working there, ok?
cheesecake, that was a good idea. I just changed shoes, and the other pair touches my feet in different spots and leaves the sore spots from yesterday alone to heal.
rizen, hope your mom feels better, and hope you do, too, because I know how much you like to walk.
Deli, I'm pretty excited about the Pope's visit, even though I'm Protestant and he's Catholic. He's spiritual and religious, but much more, too. He represents my southern South American generation, really, that went through so much dictatorship and PTSD, but has come out like him in the end.
He's not the only one--torture survivor Pres. Michelle Bachelet of Chile's like that, torture survivor and 10 year political prisoner Pres. Mujica of Uruguay's like that. Sort of a bunch of South American Nelson Mandelas. This generation will die off, but it will be helpful to remember its life lessons, ya know?
