Can't you record them with whatever device you're using to be on DS, and take it to the police?

if you have a cell phone, keep it beside you set in record mode, so you only have to push one button. all you need is a voice recorder.

start recording before you answer the door.

if you have a laptop you can turn on the camera to record before you answer the door - both are a good plan

better to record nothing or too much than not at all

you can get a sign that says there is a camera - security system and lets people know they are being filmed at the door.
