Lately, I use my brain for work rather than physical labor, so it interferes with my ability to work sometimes.
I am just coming through another round of heavy fog after my sister's death last month which had some unusual stress added to the experience.
I increase my B vitamins to help heal faster. I have found that niacin is helpful as well, but please check with your doctor to figure out a good game plan for you.
Be patient with yourself during this time. Think of it as directed downtime. Do things that you can do, rather than guilting yourself about what you can't do.
I find it usually only lasts about a week, and then it settles and clarity(my level of clarity) resumes, if there is no additional stress added.
notes and lists become our best friends :-)
I need a lot of rest, adrenal fatigue makes everything worse...But i do feel guilty for sleeping all day or not working more, however i needed.
For my level of PTSD i should be on disability...
Yeah be getle with yourself REST, very important don't do more than you can handle.
I know is frustrating but you can ask for more than you can give for now.
I'm not normally on this site, but in answer to your question, when I was young - 18 yrs old, I got married to a man who two weeks after our marriage sent me sailing across the room. I was beaten, raped, sodomized and starved and after 3 months of his torture, my mind snapped and I couldn't remember how to talk. I skipped my period that month, never had before or since. I also lost a good deal of my memory and have had word search problems ever since. This occurred in the early 1970's and I found myself suffering from PTSD before it even had a name and before there were any safe places for abused women. So I had to pull myself up by my bootstraps and carry on.. Within nine months I escaped and hid out and of course put out a restraining order, worthless piece of paper that it is. I was able to go on without him bothering me anymore, thank God, but I was marked for life. The good news? After seeking help from seven separate counselors and shrinks of different degrees, I happened upon a lecture on Transcendental Meditation that was very popular at the time. This type of meditation is different than any other kind. You just don't get the deep benefit from just picking out a mantra and repeating it. You have to be taught how to do it.
Within two weeks of starting Transcendental Meditation, I found I wasn't focusing on the past, but on the future. My counselor was so astounded, they did an article about me (under an assumed name) in the paper. Of course the counselor took credit for my sudden improvement, but I knew it was from doing 20 minutes of Transcendental Meditation twice a day. Things looked clearer to me, smelled better and I could actually relax to a point that I never had come near before.
I went on to start work as a file clerk/receptionist at a check-printing company and within two years I was in Sales and had a company car, expense account and the works! Within a few years I was making $80,000 a year and was on top of the world.
Not to say that the abuse didn't affect my life, it did, but I was able to take back much of my life that I never would have been able to do without Transcendental Meditation.
Don't try to teach yourself, even though they have put all the information on the net. Seek out a teacher of Transcendental Meditation, they are still around. It costs several hundred dollars, but when I think about how much all those visits to the shrink would have cost me over the years, it's a small amount in comparison.
You have to do it twice a day and give it some time, but you will find a difference in your life that nothing else can measure up to.
I highly recommend it. There has been a boatload of scientific experiments on "TM" as they call it. Within seconds you reach a level of rest twice that of deep sleep. It does good things for your body, too.
I was surprised that there was some negativity from people about TM
on the internet, but that was the opposite of my experience.
When you think you'd do anything to pull yourself out of your misery, don't forget about this. It sure helped put me back together and make it possible for me to have a successful career and raise a wonderful daughter.
Hope this helps someone out there.

One of my PTSD symptoms is that I dissociate/go into a dream world. Meditation has always seemed to make me worse in that regard. Any thoughts on this?
