This weekend my son, daughter in law and I went to visit my sister in law. There was a friend from out of town so the only place I could sleep was with my sister in law. I have been sober for quite a few years and I quit smoking 5 years ago. I had a stroke 3 years ago and I have no deficits but I do try to take care of myself. Everyone but me smoked and drank all night in the house. When I went to bed my sister in law was so drunk she kept repeating herself and talking real loud. And she smoked in bed. I have done a lot of work around my childhood abuse but I was blindsided by memories coming up and that sick feeling in my stomach that I might get dragged out of bed and beaten. Good grief that happened so many years ago. However, it still set of a panic attack. I couldn't wait to get home and sleep all day on Sun. She wants us to come for Thanksgiving. I just can't do it. I have decided to not go and if my fam. get mad at me that has to be okay. I need to put myself and my recovery first.
