how do you mark the beginning of a new year?

sincere question. where do your years begin and end? we have calendar years, fiscal years, academic years and quite a few other measures of years which never have felt quite personal enough for me to feel in my heart, though all are fully valid measures of time.
i mark my the beginning of own years by the minute i am currently living. every minute is the beginning of the rest of my life.
anybody else? how do mark the beginning of a new year?

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. This time I spent last night ringing in the New Year with my neighbor family here where I've retired in Mexico. Notably it was more intergenerational than parties I'd gone to in the USA, as Mexican folk are more familia oriented in my experience than folks back where I lived in the USA were.
I got to play for an hour, then, with a delightful Mexican 2 year old girl last night, to the delight of this childless old bachelor. I consider my cane to be a nuisance and a reminder of my PTSD from combat abroad when I was a kid. The little girl, though, taught me that it's a toy, too, as we did all kinds of tricks with my cane that made her laugh and laugh and got me laughing, too.
It was a BLAST. At midnight, the blast was outside, of course, as we all looked up to watch the fireworks of our own neighborhood or "barrio" launch its amateur fireworks. Honestly, it was every bit as cool as watching the ball drop in Times Square back in 2009.
Hope I get to welcome 2025 with those folks again next time.
my crowd/boom phobias are shaking my chair at the very thought of such a series of celebrations. you'll find me under the bed with the dogs and cats.
somehow, ya got me wondering if fireworks on new year's eve is a global tradition. i've hidden from them in every country i've ever lived in.
on the julian calendar this is year 24002. none of our historical figures died before they were born (bc) on the julian calendar. it drives me crazier to read about how aristotle was born in 384 and died in 322. what were you thinking, pope gregory?
