Is anybody else falling behind in keeping up with stuff this week? I'm SO grateful tomorrow's Labor Day so I can catch up on emails, both personal and professional. I had to let them sit this past week while I scrambled to convert 9 years worth of face to face lesson plans into Zoom live streaming lessons to suddenly teach online 100% full time for my community college job. It was our 2nd week of school all switched online. Not only did instructors get zero training; our college head of IT decided this would be the right time to take her vacation.
I'm grateful to my students for teaching me on screen which button to click when I needed to show my textbook on screen or when I needed to switch to show a diagram or a chart on screen or when to switch back to me and turn on my camera again so I could show myself giving the day's lecture. Every single move in every single class every single day was like that. Thank goodness for young tech savvy people who were willing to put up with me being all thumbs with Zoom software learning it on the fly in my last 40th year of teaching before retirement next year.
It's good that we don't have school tomorrow due to Labor Day because I'm not over being overwhelmed yet by last week. I'm hoping I'll calm down enough on our day off tomorrow so by going back online to teach on Tuesday I'm just whelmed and not overwhelmed like I still am today.
Kinda scared, and I know I'm not the only one, so support welcome.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I really feel for you.... I have friends here who are elementary and high school teachers and they're going back this week
It's really freaking me out..... Quebec has already gone back and the virus is already in 46 schools.... sigh
I am so glad that you're teaching online my friend as hard as it is.... I'm afraid that you're too high risk
If need be I'm sure you can get a note to take some time off..... Kudos to you for all that you're doing Muji
Big hug and a blessing.....xo
Big hugs and support. And take an hour to watch a comedy:-) Laughter is good for our health!
Muji, you have been crazy busy. I’m glad you have an extra day.. Leo has a great idea. Watch a comedy. This is a short week so hopefully it will give you some time to relax? Best Wishes.
So glad you've got the "extra" day without classes this week.
In the middle of your catching up remember to still make time for self-care. They're both important. You've made it through the first two weeks even if you were a little behind at the end of them. Zoom will probably get easier the more you use it.
So, two down, ten (or some other number of remaining weeks in the term) to go. You can do it, and the students have already shown they're willing to help.
Sending out supportive thoughts and prayers.
Holy cow, as I felt challenged by returning to teach via live streaming on Zoom as a n old guy, I wondered how it would be for that teacher and child in kindergarten to connect. I can only picture as a teacher having to put on a show like Mr. Rogers every day just to keep the children's attention. Doing that would be hard for a single individual without a production staff and a studio behind you. They've got it a lot harder than I do.
I'm scared about tomorrow still, but I'm glad to have your support to show up on my computer scree in the morning now.
You can do it! In fact you've done it for the last two weeks, and you're getting better at it. Nothing's perfect, not even teaching in person, and you'll get through today and this week.
Thoughts and prayers for peace and patience. Be kind to yourself.
