Dad has been in the hospital for a week. He has had 2 surgeries, the last one was fairly minor. He had a pacemaker put in. He lives with my brother who is a screw up. I know that sounds like I am judging but he is. He abused me. He helped others abuse me. My mom coddled his ass. He had major drug issues and she kept giving him more money, kept bailing him out of jail. Mom died 2 years ago. Jeff still lives in the family home with my dad.
Of course they want to discharge Dad today. Thanksgiving. Of course my brother didn't prepare the downstairs room and bathroom for him. He went out drinking last night (accidently butt dialed my other brother who answered and just heard bar sounds). Now he has known for 3 days that Dad is coming home soon and won't be able to do the steep stairway for a bit. He told K he was cleaning it out ( most of it is his mess). So Jeff starts texting me at 6:30 am asking me to call him. After the second text I decide I might as well get up. I call him and he tells me that the room isn't ready and the driveway etc. is too snowy. He doesn't have any money for gas for the snow blower.
Both me and my brother K thought the cleaning of the room was under control. I said if he needed help to let me know. And by "let me know" I assumed he understood that he should let me know before I walked in the door with my dad.
To make things clearer. My dad lives about 50 miles from me. My brother K lives about 15 miles away from my dad. My dad is in the cardiac unit of the hospital in the small city I live in ....so about 10 miles from my apartment and about 65 miles away from my brother K.
It was agreed that if they discharged Dad today that I would drive him home. K and his wife are hosting Thanksgiving dinner. My other brother, C and his wife are hosting their own Thanksgiving dinner with his in-laws up from out of state. I have one more brother 150 miles a way and I don't know what he is doing. I haven't talked to him since the day Dad had the first surgery and I called him to let it know how it went.
We had it planned out last night. If he was released today I would drive him home and get him settled then join my brother and his family for Thanksgiving. Last night I started throwing up. This morning I am a bit better but the virus is lingering. I can still drive him home but no turkey for me and I sure as hell don't have the energy to clean up the room and scrub out the nasty bathroom when I get there. I had to call the hospital and ask if they could keep him for one more day. I feel like an asshole.
The cherry on top this week was my daughter confession that she has been prostituting herself. She dropped that tidbit on Sunday or was it Monday.
My anxiety level has been so high that my whole body aches and my heart is galloping.
No question...just needed to rant.

Sorry the family members played their usual roles following the usual script. Amazing how consistently our families can do that. It was a great image, though, to picture you finally putting your feet up as you enjoyed a glass of wine and shared that moment with us, your friends.
