Hi Ho Hi Ho It's off to work I go
Today is my 2nd Tuesday since classes began at my college. The 1st Tuesday last week was a disaster, as a student in my 2nd class of the morning exploded at me in hostility when called on during a Spanish verb drill. I created some written work for students today instead of planning to do Spanish pronunciation work out loud so no one will feel picked on again by being called on, I just want to avoid stepping on a land mine doing my job again. Wish me luck.
My boss and our Student Success Center continue to ask me to offer IT tech solutions to students about our online Spanish lab that came with our textbook. I emailed them back the IT support link for the Spanish textbook company yesterday, saying as Spanish instructor I can answer Spanish questions that arise in using the online lad doing its exercises. However, I said, continuing to ask me to solve problems setting up the online account day after day for a week really isn't going to be productive, as I'm just a customer, too, for the textbook company as well as its online lab not an IT tech rep for the company. Do you think I went too far in drawing my work duty boundaries?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I know of few things more frustrating than trying to get an account set up and feeling stupid that I coudn't do it.
Steadying hopes and support coming your way as you brave the lion's den.
Don't you already have translator experience?
Just wondering. . .
Like the idea of all coming to the class and the tech wizards help those like myself get them set up. Odds are they will call the helper instead of calling you.
Muji, I knew it was Tuesday, so prayers already sent. I always kept in mind that the challenging students were acting out from their own family problems. It helped. Glad to share some techniques I used. Hugs to all.
student didn't show up. Just in case, I avoided any risk of calling on anyone or even telling a joke,
but also avoiding the risking of calling on anyone. I did give a quiz, though. I want to be remembered as a teacher who worked hard, not some has-been who was lazy or too obsolete and disabled to do the job any more. I feel good about getting through today, especially since it was a day I had apprehension about when I left the house for work in the morning.
At the day's end, I fixed a problem my boss had made such a fuss about to the Dean by doing what I
see patti suggested. Thanks, patti! To come home and see I did what you suggested was very validating. It turns out that a student couldn't log in to my class's online lab not through
any flaw in my instructions. We went to to my office and called the online lab provider's tech
support help line. After both of us chatted with their IT tech support staff person I found out that
he'd already taken the class once before. Therefore he couldn't log in to a class that he'd completed
previously. I left my boss a note saying "problem solved." It felt good!
