Just a general therapy tool box sorting. Thoughts, experience and opines welcome.
This tool comes to me through Speech Therapy channels, most specifically for stammering/stuttering. I think. Over half a century of rapid cycling therapy has turned into alphabet soup in my damaged memory. It is hard for me to remember which "Psycho Store" I bought which therapy tool from. At any rate. . . I've been stuttering quite allot lately. This is the yaddah which has bubbled out of the alphabet soup cauldron:
"Some things are either easy or they are impossible."
The goal is to relax the speech system far enough to flow past the stammer. My stutter is one of the places where my over-compensating reflexes tend to bottleneck into a major blockage. The harder I push, the tighter the blockage becomes. The studied response: Back off. Do nothing for a while. Let the blockage rest.
"Nothing" is not an easy task for a hyper-active metabolism like mine. vroom vroom. Just breathe.
Then. . . After the knot has loosened, "Spit." Literally. Stammer gone. Hubs has been greatly entertained.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
But even though I was unable to float through my anxiety I know others who were able to use that technique quite successfully. Maybe mine would have worked if I had to spit after it...I should have tried that... LOL. :-)
When I first started using ACT tools, I, too, kept feeling sucker-punched and knocked into hysteria by those hidden memories. Those became my flag for the spots where I needed to focus the pro-active therapy. Never tried it as an ACT tool, but, yes, spitting just might work for some of those spots. JUST spit out the clog and get back to the sentence? Worth a try. Little things can make big difs.
