I had one of those days. My colleague's wife was diagnosed with cancer so he asked me to take over a Thursday class for him. I'm glad to, however adding one more class meant I taught 75 minutes classes back to back all day at my community college.
For me that's an endurance test. Mostly it went fine, though I had a young man mouth off at me the class I took over for my colleague, the next to last class of the day. My colleague is a part time instructor and his expectations a different from mine. I'm the full time instructor in the topic (I teach 5 sections of the course per year) and I have expectations with more books required. It's not a class for mouthing off much since the topic is death and dying. Plus, I don't do well with students who stage rude confrontations; it triggers my PTSD.
I did make it to teach my last class of the day. The kicker, though, was that when I got home I slipped on the ice and fell HARD. No broken bones and no sprain, thank God, but really bad scraped knees and bruises. I'm a 57 year old who is built like Santa Claus, so nimble I'm not. Fortunately, my neighbor came over and helped me back on my feet.
Hurting and tired now, and another ice storm is on the way. Encouragement welcome.

Days like that leave you feeling so alive!

Not so much for me, low, just speaking for myself. I totally understand my friends who struggle with cutting as a way of overcoming dissociation, but this is not that, really.

Ouch. Not just for the ice but the student as well. Many people have told me I should become a teacher/professor but I know I could never deal with people that are just taking up space and are not really there to learn. I had my share of arguments with professors but I always kept it on topic and was able to provide the quots to back up my arguments. I hope I was never rude about it.

I'm sure you weren't. A good Socratic give and take is actually delightful for me as a professor. This is a young fellow who is in a course on death and dying and basically not respecting the safe atmosphere we need for people to discuss end of life issues. You NEVER did anything like that, atec, I am totally sure. And I bet you would make a good professor. Law?
