I was suprised to see the headline of your post as I opened the PTSD group, as I was going to post on the same thing. I have a GP who, as soon as a lot of things settled in my life I am going to stop seeing. Recently I have had increasing serious foot pain and I asked him for a referral to get an X-ray. He refused and I had to keep at him to get it. I know what was going on, I have serious mental illnesses and I have PTSD and he was just playing the "she's irrational, hypocondriac and there aren't any real problems", card. Well I got he X-rays and have today seen a podiatrist and I have multiple serious problems in my foot and may even need surgery. I can tell you, as a single woman living along with multiple mental and physical health problems, this stuff makes me feel really alone - being invalidated like that.
As well as being a psych patient, I am a 12 years sober alcoholic in AA and unfortunately in recent weeks two men when ballistic when one shared from the the front of the room and on another occasion when one was chairing the meeting. I was in full PTSD, rather CPTSD really, and have been recovering since. I can't go to AA now for a while and I love AA so much and it makes me feel really lonely not to go. It's my special place.
But I did have some life affirming and useful information come my way this week. Our State is going to put up new legislation that Bullying, including the type of bullying that happened in AA (it can be to a group or individual) is now a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and it includes pushing people into distress like I was and also includes pushing people into self harm and suicide. This is fantastic as it will address situations in the workplace (which is where it emenated from as a teenage girl was bullied so much she suicided), but also into all realms of society. I'm not sure what I am going to do with the information yet - whether I will introduce the information to these AA meetings myself, or whether I will do it through our Central Service Office in a major city - and then have it dissemanated from there. I will give it some thinking time as I do have plenty of time before I feel I'm ready to go back to AA anyway.
