Emotional endurance and pain-venting

TGIF. I have had a good week over all, but my therapy about dysfunctional family dynamics has taught me to look at how all groups interact. Right now, two young faculty have been showing signs that something or other has made them cranky when around me. In meetings, passing in the hallway.
So I'm being mindful and trying to shift interactions to the positive to see if that might help. However, as an old faculty member this week my physical damage is wearing down my endurance. My PTSD recovery led me to be a hospital chaplain for ER trauma patients, but on that job I mistook diabetes symptoms to be PTSD symptoms. I worked with low blood sugar for a year pushing myself too much, and ended up with 60% permanent kidney damage.
In turn that caused permanent nerve damage to 2 disks in my back, to both feet, and to my fingers. In my feet and back it means chronic pain, and it's been bad enough that I'm on crutches at the moment.
I can't take painkillers other than Tylenol (not even aspirin) due to my kidneys, so pain control is psychological for me. Getting rest helps. Thing is, I'm kind of fatigued living on that 40% of kidney function, and I've got my grouchy young co-workers to see in a meeting today. They're nice people, they've just been in a bad mood for a couple of weeks and somehow I'm playing some kind of elder role bad mood depository role in our workplace family system. I take it usually as a kind of a backwards flattery most days, because it means they see me as strong and a guy they can gripe at.
But I'm in pain today. I've been on crutches all week for spraining my left ankle, but all day so far I keep having nerves flare up in my right foot. It's generally bringing my own overall coping skills down. I need some couch time to rest, binge watch some mindless tv show, take another nap, and just be cranky myself and old right now. I'm at work, though, so I'm venting here, knowing that's the next best thing. Thanks for listening.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

Hope you have a restful weekend with lots of funny movies!!
I was on Lyrica (a very similar drug) when I had shingles a few years ago and it was the bomb ... These meds really do work.... Big squishy hug for you...x
@Jan: Gabapentin -- like so many other drugs -- is awfully risky in somebody with Muji's level of Chronic Kidney Disease. You're right, though: it can be a miracle drug. My wife prescribes it for many of her patients with the same kind of neuropathic pain.
I understand only too well the quandary you inhabit, Muji. I hope you sail through this next period of time smoothly and gracefully.

Rest well, my champion.
When I was re-learning to walk, I taped skull-adorned duct tape around my canes. It's amazing how people got the hint. Just an idea. *whistles innocently*
I admire your strength and determination, and your continued perseverance at working. I know that school for me is not easy, so teaching for you must be even more difficult.
Keep your chin up though because it sounds like you've got this! Maybe some day I can be more like you and manage myself a little better too. :)
I DODGED THAT MEETING WITH THE YOUNG FACULTY, TOO. That was smart. I just did the minimum and got home. In pain all day. So I came home and took a monster 4 hour nap (pain tires me out). Tomorrow will be a better day, that's what I've decided.
I'm so glad to be able to post here about pain and now others here live with Parkinsons like Alice does, and that raw eye pain David lives with, and the fibro Leo's got, and on down the line. And that I can hear a share from cheesecake. Have arfie call me a champion (thanks, arfie!). Have musk tell me to go for funny movies (I even bought a ticket to a live comedy club, musk!). Have Lilly remind me to escape to Calypso. Have SC send me a hug like she always, always does. Have looney say she admires me (thanks, looney).
I am so sorry you all suffer, too, but I'm glad we found each other to support one another.
You all are the BEST. The BEST.
I can not stand being around them. It must be very difficult.
