do i quit or get fired

I am going for long-term so I am thinking I should let them do it. Been at job nine years.

I take it this is not long-term disability from the company but rather from the government? I am assuming government. Yikes I just don't now. You want to do this the right way for sure, so I would suggest speaking with a lawyer of doctor in order to get the correct method of doing this. Possibly even call the office and ask them if you get fired from a job will this effect you qualifying for long term? Talk to your doctor about quitting he maybe able to provide a note for you saying that you cannot work any longer due to your illness. He needs to be prepared to back you up on this too.

Depending on whether it's state, federal, employer-provided disability? The rules vary wildly. I'd say CC's got a good idea with asking for a doc to sign off on the extent of your disability---also therapists/psych docs, whoever else. You can also ask your therapist (if you have one you trust) about disability and so on. They're supposed to know these things where I live, though I don't know about other states in the US.

I agree that you should talk to a lawyer about this. You always want to make sure you are protected. I also agree with talking to your doctor, maybe they can fill out FMLA?

If you are taking votes, I vote you follow your first instinct: let them do it.

Of course, my work herstory is not stable enough to make me a good career advisor, but I have had a couple of jobs where I decided to let them do the dirty work and I actively set out to get fired. ?Something like suicide by cop? Over the course of working to get fired, I ended up addressing the main problems I was having with the jobs and actually resolved enough of those problems to turn it into an ideal job. Not perfect, but something I could live with... Left the jobs for other reasons.

If you let them do not then chances are you can collect unemployment. I don't know how it is there but here if you quit you're on your own. If you get fired you can collect unemployment.
