If that makes any sense...But thats what its like for me
It is subdivided into categories. I experience depersonalization which is when you feel detached from your own body. Some people call it an "out-of-body" experience. For me it feels like I am looking through someone else's eyes. If you've ever seen Being John Malcovich. It's the same as when those people become him and experience his world. I feel like my experiences aren't my own and I am not the body that my mind is in.
I also experience derealization which is when you feel like the world is not real. You feel detached from everyone and everything and it may all look like a movie that is going on.
There is also dissociative amnesia where you can't recall important information about yourself. And identity confusion and alteration which are where dissociative identity disorder comes in.
from your description, my dissociation is a lot a like. Sometimes I feel like i'm in a situation again that has caused me trauma, or I am watching it. Sometimes I just completely shut down, like all my feelings and emotions stop and I feel detached from the actual situation I am in. Hope that helps hun :)
