I've been the one to leave all behind twice now. There have been occasions that I regretted do so, as I eventually became homeless, but for my own sake I needed to go.

Ouch, arfie, I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through in your marital life. I was divorced 13 years ago. It was not my decision and sounds different from your situation. There was no lead-up to it with disagreements in my awareness. My spouse just suddenly had another person she was seeing outside our marriage and I stumbled up it surprising her, ironically, when I came home from work early to treat her to dinner because I felt romantically toward her. Then I got a cold bucket of water in the face, so to speak, and in short order she chose him over me and we were divorced. It hit me so fast I was spun around for about a year or so.

As different as it was to your situation, I still don't wish on it all happened in a blur like that in any circumstances. However, I understand you report the police had to come by, so there is that kind of safety and peacekeeping dimension to consider.

As to your desire for independence, I've learned to cherish it, but it was hard because on my end I'd been happily married for 13 years when my marriage suddenly imploded in 2000. The road to enjoying my independence as I do now had its rocky moments.

I have to admire your independence streak. I wish I was that strong with 4 divorces under my belt. Agree though it has its rocky moments. But only you know if your ready for that. I now think for a married couple to stay friends in the marriage, their just seems to be the need for alone time for yourself. That's hard to do. best wishes though on your journey for independence.

Not allot to say with divorce drama. A cultural cliche here in the US and well on its way to becoming a worldwide cliche.

Yes, I am uncommonly independent. Trust issues keep me from too much dependence. I often wonder if that independence is why my marriage lasted over three decades. I don't expect much.

Small steps and deep breaths. For now, just a separation.
