My in-laws have experienced dramatic transitions over the past two years. They are "suddenly" showing their 84 years to the point where no member of the family can fail to notice and these folks have Ivy League Denial Training.
Naturally, each member of the family is having their own reaction to the awareness. None of us share often enough to share those reactions. The natural (?) result is 12 hearts singing loudly from their own sheet of music in their own key.
My control issues are rattling their cage like a marine corps battalion awaiting orders. I want to tell people what and how to think and feel. I want to be the great commander of all truth, past, present and future. I want to hear 12 hearts singing from the same sheet of music...
Trying to get a handle on it. I cannot give up control because control was never mine to give up. I can only give up the illusion of control.
Just sharing...

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
Like you describe your family singing 12 different tunes at once.
It's a tough place to be. It's a period of life that comes to us all, too--getting old if we're lucky. I wonder how much of a handful I'm going to be to someone else someday.
But... Having "successfully" extracted myself from my own parental drama -my sons have never known my parents- has taught me there is no easy route through this one. I still felt my father's death. I still feel my mother's 15th year in her state nursing home.
Think I will hold on to the political promise that another cigarette will save me from all that golden years business. Puff puff.
Hearing loss has made my own aging symptom list already. Don't know how much is loss of hearing and how much is loss of interest....
