Considering EMDR

My therapist has tried EMDR with me previously, but I've always stopped after a couple of sessions. It causes me huge anxiety and irrational thoughts because I have it connected in my mind with my dad passing away when I was young. Right before he passed away he started EMDR treatment and although I know, at least the rational part of me does, that it didn't do anything to cause his death and if anything, kept him alive longer, the irrational part of me and the trauma surrounding that time, makes me deathly afraid of doing this.
The more I read and learn about EMDR, the more it seems like a logical treatment route for many of the issues I am dealing with. So, I guess I'm just wondering if anybody has had any good or bad experiences with it and what I should expect or any advice.

I know it helps lots of people, but it just agitated me and increased my symptoms. I did not continue with it. If you have a need to talk about your trauma, then yes, it could possibly help. I, however, do not. Actually, I'm sick of talking about it! My social worker is going to try a more art therapy approach to healing as I express myself best through my creativity. Good luck!

hi adub572, could you please let us know how it goes with the EMDR? that is, if you do decide to try it out again.

I am also considering it, not sure what to make of the description of the process... I guess it brings up old stuff... but not sure how it is supposed to help to diminish all of the "stuff"/feelings/triggers/etc. inside one's head. Anyhow, I hope you are able keep safe if you do go forward...

I have perticipated in EMDR therapy to deal with several tramas in my life. I had very positive reactions to it. What seemed to be a huge horrible incident was reduced to something I could manage and face and eventually let go of. It is not magic. I did have anxiety following sessions but was able to work through this with my therapist. I am considering trying it again on new trama that has come up.
There are books out there that give you information on the therapy. There is also info on the internet. Good luck in your decision.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
