Hi, I'm shelly I just found this site after so much footwork that only led me to an enormous amount of disappointing spam. LOL. Has anyone experienced anything close to mine which is when you try to tell a professional about your dreams that I really thought everyone dreamt like I did. But I have no control over my dreams I don't spend one moment of my day thinking about anything negative and I do everything possible not to even put myself in the path of a chance of having a bad dream yet every night. Only to hear someone say well your on all the right meds and as a patient they throw it right back in my lap and ask me what do I sugguest or to explain it as simply as I can only for everytime the big question is ok shelly what brings you in today what can I help you with? HELLO I'm telling you I have no control of what I'm dreaming here people what is happening? Please don't tell me I'm the only unlucky soul that has experienced this or if there is a magic sentence that I am missing and i have a degree in mental health please share with me because I don't know how someone can almost blame me for something I can't do anything about thanks shelly

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

Frankly, my dreams are nightmares, and I don't muck about. Nightmares. Use the word nightmares. If you wake up disoriented, afraid, or screaming (I've done these), those words tend to inspire mental health professionals to take things more seriously.
I have heard of some people having success in "steering dreams" but I'm not one of them and I've been working on it for 7 years. Not to depress you, but maybe ask if someone can teach you the technique?
Glad you found usl. Site's been up since earlly 2000s, I've been on it sicne 2010 and on PTSD since 2013. Welcome to what many of us think of as "the safe place"!
I have nightmares, so I take Prazosin for them. It's much better than the usual Seroquel, so I'd recommend looking into it. Then as for help with my therapy, I use the resources others here at DS PTSD pointed me to on the Pete Walker website.
"Pete specializes in helping adults who were traumatized in childhood, especially those whose repeated exposure to abuse and/or neglect left them with the symptoms of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [Cptsd]. ... It deeply explores the causes of Cptsd that range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse."

Sorry for what happened to you when you were a kid, too, but I'm glad you found us. Welcome.
