Over the years i have managed to control my PTSD orso I thoght. The last 6 months have been hard the relationship I was in broke up, it was my first since the death of my wife from concer 5 years ago. Then a close friend almost like my second mother died so I was going through the grieving process over that loss as well. Then I fell of my motorcyle on the way to work, noothing seroius but scans showed I had a pelvic tumour and it was quite large. That has since been removed and was shown to be a Desmoid tumour (non Cancer) so lucky in that reguard. Now I am in the recovery stage I find myself focussing on all the negatives, the loss of the relationship, close friend the fall out from removing the tumour- Doctors had to preform a vasectomy in order to get it out in one piece and I now have to take pills to have an erection. I am only 57 and otherwise healthy. How can I develop a relationship with someone new and should I even try? The why me thoughts seem to be outweighing the positive and I don't want to play the victim as to me thats an easy way out. I know I have to focus on me and not others but I don't know what that means.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

The poor little victim stigma is only one of many ways PTSD symptoms can manifest. There are those of us who channel the symptoms into superhero stigma. I'm one. It is far easier for me to run recklessly from disaster to disaster, rescuing "poor little victims" than to admit I have psychic wounds in need of heroic healing measures. Superheroes are impervious!!! How dare you imply otherwise!?!?!?!?!?
I snuck a peek at your profile. In my own therapy support circles, I seem to find allot of kindred spirits among emergency response teams. Is it possible? Just just-a-patient wondering. Your own symptoms are yours to sort. Every case is unique and the differences are important.
Gentle support while you sort. Welcome aboard.
Putting everything together into one big melting pot can seem impossible to deal with
If you aren't ready for a relationship at this point that's okay.... Maybe take some time to heal
I find gratitude really helpful..... When I'm feeling grateful I never feel as bad.... Some people keep a gratitude journal
Think of 5 things to be grateful for each day.... It may be as simple as a cup of coffee or a warm bed to sleep in and read the journal at the end of each week
You may be suffering from depression now.... Have you looked into this?.... There is medication that can help
Gentle hug... I'm glad that you've found us..... This is a good group.....xo
