anxiously scared for the life of my newborn niece
FindingKatB
Last night, my brother's gf was having contractions so she went to the hospital. Not too long, about 3 hrs ago, she gave birth to my newborn niece.
Since my father told me that, i have new anxieties and fears for the life of my newborn niece. I have not even met her and I am so scared for her. this extreme feeling of helplessness has taken over and I feel that I need to save her somehow from this world she has been brought into.
I dont know why, but is this feeling of having to save others healthy? is it normal for ptsd sufferers to experience these feelings and know that they can't do anything for others except just accepting the facts as they are? The fact that I can't create a healthy relationship or bond with her bothers me because I fear that she will experience what I have had to experience.I dont want her to go through what I have had to go through. I dont want her to deal with it but I know I can't prevent her from it.
My fear for her is that she wont feel safe and protected in this world as I haven't. That quality of character, that resilience to stay strong and resist what others can do to her, is something I feel everyday that has been taken away from me. My prayer to God is that she will be safe in the Lord and know Him and not fear.Somehow, I know that fear does happen but this feeling overwhelms me...
My life has always been about saving others and helping them, while self-sacrificing my own needs. Now I realize, I have paid the price for others and saving my ownself is priority. Now that there is a new lfe coming into my home soon, I know that I want her to feel safe and not grow into this sick env't as I have.

When my niece was born I had a terrible time as my brother was one of the people who raped me. I was so scared that she would be abused by him as well. I thought about talking to my sister-in-law about my fears and that he had abused me, but I didn't do that. I thought she wouldn't believe me I guess. I worried for a really long time and I honestly don't know if anything ever happened to her. I know that my sister-in-law had been abused by her brothers and I don't think she would have allowed anything to happen with my niece or nephew. She wasn't the type to back down on anything. I did confront my brother years later and he admitted to some fondling, which at the time was what I remembered. He said he was sorry but didn't remember it. That night he had a dream that he had done what I said and admitted it. I really hope my niece and nephew were okay.

I feel for you. I am that type of person...have been as far back as I can remember, I just want to protect and take care of everyone. But like the others said, it is impossible. Sometimes all we can do is pray for them and be there for them if and when they need us. I pray for your niece too that she has a kind and loving childhood. God bless you and i hope you have some peace with this soon,
