This week I've really been here a lot asking for support not to give in to my fight or flight response due to stress at work. I had a conflict with my boss on Monday, and managed to keep my cool through it with a LOT of support from here. Then Tuesday a student went off in the hall way on me after midterm grades were posted, and somehow I kept my cool there, too.
Both cases of keeping my cool mean not only keeping my temper, but also keeping from quitting. Important, because in 30 minutes I got in for my 5 year tenure review interview in front of the bosses at my college. I could really have blown that under the stress of this week.
But today an older student brought that young student who went off in the hall way to me and got him to listen to me and make up.
It was amazing.
While that was going on in my classroom just the 3 of us, my boss that I had a conflict with on Monday stuck her head in the door and wished me lots of luck in tonight's tenure interview. And she meant it, very positively.
It was amazing.
Look, I don't know if I'm going to do any good at this tenure interview I'm about to go into. I've done a good job these last 5 years teaching at this community college, but I have PTSD, and I'm not perfect. I'm just thankful to go in there without being in fight or flight mode from the stress of this week, thanks to your support.
That's amazing.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

You may have had some suggestion from here, but you were the one who decided act on what you know works. Don't sell yourself short, you did the actual work and a big congrats for doing it so well!!!
Now is your time to shine, I hope you got tenure!
Glad you found what you needed to ride out the storm.
Anyway, I'm fresh back from my tenure interview and it went better than even I expected. My standard was that I just get to put the work I'd done for the last 5 years on the record. After that, whatever happened happened.
It was way more positive than that. I was asked about my work, but with respect and admiration for it that was really meaningful to me. Those in the room asking are the best instructors my community college has.
They also asked about my mistakes and failures in the last 5 years. I have to give credit to my boss in that she had warned me to be prepared for that in advance. That helped, because with my PTSD, if I feel I get ambushed, I get defensive and make myself look even worse. Instead, I had my answers thought out and I gave them without defensiveness and with humility, and they were met with acceptance. What a relief.
So I don't know what the verdict will be, but I feel the support I got here in preparation really helped. Especially in the last few days, which turned out to be the most conflicted, stressful years of my last 5 years here. Thank you.
