I have been sick for the past year and a half.. I am 20 years old and have bad asthma that left me in and out of the hospital every month for the past year. After I finally got that under control after switching primary care doctors (she said it was anxiety and not asthma which was not true). In February I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism which are blood clots in my lungs. I have bad anxiety and I think I have ptsd from the fact that I almost lost my life from these clots.. I am on blood thinners for life now and also have had many scares that the I have formed more clots and I’m getting worse. I have gone for many tests to try and find out why a rather healthy 20 year old could have such thing and all the tests came back normal. Not to mention I was misdiagnosed 3 times before my doctor said let’s “rule out” blood clots. I was in the er the night before and sent home with a diagnosis of the flu when really it was something life threatening thatbshould have been treated then.
I just feel so alone. My family doesn’t believe me that I am still sick because the recovery from such a traumatic thing like I suffered could take years before I feel normal. Every appointment and scan I go through brings back horrible memories. No one gets what I’m going through or even bothers to ask how I am. I have lost my job and all my friends due to being so sick. I just want to live a normal carefree life again. I am now on so many medications I can’t even keep them straight. My anxiety is through the roof when I don’t feel good in fear that I’ll get another clot because of it being unknown why I got one in the first place. I just feel so alone!

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

It's tough.... I understand your fear and that you now have a chronic illness
Blood thinners won't allow the same clotting to go on and I'm sure you'll have very regular bloodwork now
Have you talked to your doctor about your fears and that you are feeling traumatized?
Maybe being referred to a therapist could really be of help to you?
This is a good board for support and a good place to vent
Gentle hug and a blessing.....xo
I had a really good VA therapist for my PTSD that put me on solid footing as to coping with PTSD even though I'm a civilian combat veteran and not a military veteran. Just like I needed a kidney specialist and not just my primary care doctor, I needed a PTSD specialist and not just a regular therapist. I lost my tenured university job before I found him, and it's taken me years to build my life back just to teaching community college, so I get how serious being sick is. I really recommend finding a PTSD therapist, though I understand how hard it is. It took me 12 years.
