Adult Child Behavior is Exhausting
My 22 year old daughter does not work. Today I told her she needed to have a job by the end of next week. This came after she called me all kinds of names and told me to go "f" myself because I dare to suggest that a job would open up more friends opportunities. Her emotional aggressive outbursts are random and unpredictable. I am always to blame for everything wrong with her life. She likes to tell my mom that I hate her and do not love her at all. She also tells her friends how terrible I am. One of her guy friends was too afraid to even meet me. Others who have met me find something different then described. Her friendships do not last long as they often catch her trying to start fights with me or being nasty towards me. She does not think she is wrong she believes she is the victim. I have offered to go to family therapy and she refused. I believe she is fearful someone independent may tell her she is wrong. She is exhausting me. I am tired of being the bad guy when I have done nothing wrong, I am tired of being screamed at and called names, and I'm tired of trying to be her friend and mother while being rejected and then blamed. For example, today she said she was annoyed. I asked her what was wrong she said she didn't want to talk about and then during her out burst she screamed at me for not asking her again what was wrong. I am not saying that I am blame free but she wants me to be a laughing and happy all the time. She told my mom that I make pissy faces at her when I come from work. When I come home from work typically she is either still sleeping or just getting up. She does nothing to help me, the trash cans will be at the curb, the pets not feed, and she will no doubt ask me what is for dinner and will ask me to bring it to her in bed so yes I am pissing at times with her.
I will take any support- I not only tired but how do I get over my issues if hers are always first?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

If you are still doing therapy, it might be an idea to print out what you've written here and take it with you to your next appointment.
If not...maybe start by just taking a deep breath and re-reading what you've written a few times.
What jumps out at me, is that while you start by her not having a job, and go on about what she's said to you...most of what you write and seem to react to is what she's said ABOUT you to third parties (your mother, her friends, etc.)
I think that it might help if you could stop caring so much about what these strangers think about you. And just saying, that if her friends are starting to work...they might be thinking to themselves that they wouldn't want her freeloading off of them. In other words...your daughter is probably mischaracterizing her friends responses...just as she's misrepresenting your responses to this situation too.
Motivating an stuck adult-child....is hard. Extremely hard. And isolating for both the adult-child AND the parent.
Big, big, big hugs as you work your way through this. Big hugs.
hard truth..mom, you aren't going to live forever...… I doubt other people will put up with her tantrums...….what will she do when you are gone?
I would insist on some changes and let her know that she's a guest in YOUR home..
I know that these changes will be as hard for you as they would be for her however this can get a whole lot better..... Big hug
