Where were you on 9/11, and what were you doing?
For me, I was waiting on a foot ferry to take me to the other end of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. I got to work as quickly as possible as the entire fleet was going to sail as soon as possible. Ships needed groceries and parts. There were nine ship surface ships and five submarines. Each needing immediately 3-4 40-foot truckloads of food. And many needed gas before leaving also. We put the tanker to sea first as it was the most vulnerable and topped off everyone up after sailing. Groceries took nearly two days. We emptied the bulk food storage for Ohau's Hotels. And then... it was dead quiet. I lived in military housing in the flight path of Hickham, so a cargo plane is about four on the Richter scale about three times an hour. I'm on the beach, but it is a bit noisy. After 9/11, no planes for nearly three weeks. Tanks were stationed in family housing. By Xmas, we put Christmas lights on them.
I slept under my desk for nearly three weeks. I worked at CINC Pac Flt (Navy Pacific Command), we all waited and planned.
I am a heart patient and have been very active on a support message board for my type of disease. I have been very vocal as a patient advocate, because I was so screwed over by the military, and I have attracted others coming to the board looking for patient experiences.
