I know what I am capable of when I am in a rage but I do not mean to hurt the ones I love. My boyfriend is a big guy and towers over me but this morning something set me off and he got in my space way to close like he was gonna stand in my way. He was shocked at how powerful I was to almost take him to the floor in a split second. Now that I am calmmed down it scares me that I can be that way. It takes everything I have to be in the public and people running their mouths makes me so mad what happens if I cannot control myself and I harm someone. Does anyone else have these rages like me? If so besides medicating myself what do you do?

Hello- I am new to the group

Jay's podcasts are really good. I watch them on YouTube for free. Today, I watched his video about motivation. In fact, I've been watching a few videos on this subject. Jay gave us an assignment to complete the following sentence: I am stuck because? I don't describe myself as stuck, but to finish the sentence, I would say that I am stuck because I am tired. When I have energy, I do...
I finally seem to be getting the handle on it. 'Bout time. I am crowding 60 and still not as helpless as a stereotype. My husband is twice my size and there is not a doubt that I can take him out easier than I can stop a triggered rage.
So far as I can tell, prevention and channeling are the only tools that work on my own rages. For prevention, I work on early warning signs and knowing my triggers. When I cannot accomplish full prevention of the oncoming rage, I work on channeling it until it spends itself. During the worst of my rage phase, I spent allot of time in the desert, beating up on helpless cacti. Environmentalists have me posted on their Most Wanted Threat wall.
Hope you find what works for you. Aside from being dangerous, these rages on no fun, whatsoever.
Shame, too. I'd like to just get it all out of my system ... at least once.
There has to be a "healthy" way to do it.
I wonder about martial arts ... or spin classes ... or kickboxing ... or ... literally ... some kind of hard physical work.
I've never come back from a strenuous hike, with a full pack, feeling much rage or anxiety.
Or a long run. Or a day skiing. Or a 50-mile bike trip.
Is it a cure ? No.
Does it help ?
Sometimes.
I promise to never get on your bad sides -- either of you -- and wish you peace, health, and fortitude.
I usually say "strength," but ... I think you've got that covered ;-)
I have good control over it right now, but sleep and eating right play a big part in keeping it under control. So does keeping your stress levels low.
I am sure exercise would help, but I am too exhausted for that right now.
You do need to find an outlet for that anger. Maybe go see a therapist. You cannot go around hitting people, that will get you in trouble with the law and only cause more issues. You may need help to find a better outlet for that anger and rage. Good luck and keep us updated on what works for you.
I learned to leave the room and take some deep breathes which helps, a lot.
Sometimes it helps to just unleash the frustration onto a good punching bag. I beat up a mattress once when I didn't have a punching bag. But, the best thing to do is to realise wheather or not you are in a situation where you could get very angry and take it out on people. If you are, you need to remove yourself from the situation. Leave the room or just give yourself some distance and take some slow deep breaths. Cleanching and unclench in your fists or rolling your shoulders back to release tension. Anything that will help you to calm down.
Learn the warning signs that you are getting angry so you can get out of a bad situation before it evolves into a rage you find hard to control.
I wish you the best and I hope you feel better :)
