I have been taking a bit of a media break. Way before the internet I began noticing that the global nothing personals of published media had a tendency to leave accumulated residues in my mind and could make it difficult for me to stay grounded in my personal present. Media fasts help me clear away the detritus of anonymous opines and stay better grounded in what is in front of my eyes. To my senses, the published name of a person I will never meet is still anonymous.
But, of course, I cannot do a full media fast right now because I am job hunting. The need to envision oneself within the highly impersonal four lines of a job posting just about qualifies as insanity in motion... I am still having anxiety attacks with every attempt, but am navigating the madness with small, persistent steps. It is what I have to work with.
My apartment seems to be providing the effect I was hoping for. Communications with my husband and sons are cleaner and more focused without the habitual stresses of constant exposure. I think. So far. It is still early in the experiment.
And now it is time to push my procrastinating self into the mysteries of my job hunting day. Onward through the probing uncertainties...

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
I know of some other people who have purposely done 'media fasting'. I've only done it when circumstances force it, but I do notice that after a week I experience changes in perspectives of my daily realities and just plain get more done.
I do hope you keep in touch here with us. Don't completely fast from me please, cuz I need the food for thought.

Sometimes starting with a "Temp" company is a good way to both get more comfortable and a significant number of temp positions turn into permanent ones. ( I taught as an 'adjunct professor' part time for a few terms until a full time position opened up and then I already knew the folks there and didn't have to sell myself.)
Also, have you posted your resume online on sites like Monster.com? Have you talked to 'head hunters' (employment agencies)?
Just trying to brain storm some alternative supplemental job search methods for you.
Best of luck.
I think it is exploring those on-line resources that have me saturated to the point of needing to watch my media diet...
Small bytes and long chews.
I'll bet. I can imagine. Sounds really smart to participate in those workshops, though, as time-consuming as they might be.
Fingers crossed!
Don't know if I told you that my husband's been here in the US for 5 years and has had his green card for almost two years but has been holding himself back from putting all his energy in the job hunt. It really forces you to confront so many security issues or lack thereof. I've been in the same job for 14 years and I'm lucky, but still unsatisfied, but part of the reason I'm still where I am is because I'm not in a hurry to do that whole job search thing. Sometimes, I think I'll have more luck trying to become a successful published writer than to go on job interviews. I guess I'm a bit of a control freak that way.
My point is to say that I support you and wish you the best!
