Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
I do recommend as a retired teacher, that doing some substitute teaching or volunteering in a public school is a valuable experience. Substitute teaching allows parents-to-be to consider costs, training, environment, child development, discipline, and many lessons to prepare for having a child. Most important, substitute teaching gets you into the training mode. You will get an important view of reality with kiddos that will help your preparation. Parents are a child's first and most important teacher. Good parenting and teaching is constant, consistent, and important at every age level too.
Gather information and be well prepared. Best wishes.
I'll be discussing this with my husband and doc and take it from there.
i do know that i want to be strong enough to handle it...but i also cant help but fear if i wait linger then i run the risk of having a flare and have to wait more years. idk :/ lol
Now what meds are you on? and how are you feeling?
Do you feel like youd be able to handle a child currently?
i am feeling great. low energy is my biggest complaint and sometimes achey muscles but i continue to find remedies that work for me and i feel like i'm better than ever. however, i don't know if i'll EVER feel like i can handle a child ha! i feel like i will needs lots of help. my hubby is amazing and will be the best dad and help to me but it's just really nice to nap whenever i need to, slow down when i need to, and i know that won't always be possible with a little one ha.
SO glad you are experiencing continued strength off your meds!! I'm sure us being younger has a lot to do with it
I asked my hubby if he would be willing to put in the extra help if i were to need it when we do have a child and he said yes and it seemed sincere. so that great we both have wonderful and loving husbands to support us :) Have you ever asked your doc about babies?
I'm nervous to to be honest i dont want a bad answer.....We all should be used to waiting now but its SOOO hard sometimes... lol
i mentioned having kids to my doc a long time ago and he didn't say much since i wasn't seriously considering it yet. he said he has seen people with myositis have great successful pregnancies and that it even relieves the disease symptoms since the body is majorly taking care of another human too:)
i agree-so hard to wait sometimes!!!! what meds were you on that you are off of now and how long did it take you?!
I was on predisone for about 8 months and then stopped and did acthar gel for 6 weeks and have been med free since :) six months now just gaining strength daily it feels :-)
EMG showed no new inflammation!! :D just a very small margin showed which they said is common the the healing phase :) im stoked!
in terms of conceiving...basically got the green light. They told me that their biggest concern with Myo and pregnancy is the meds. im on none so they feel i could have a successful pregnancy although they can not promise i wont flare..or will flare. which we all know. we just dont know what this disease has in store for us in the future :)
