I am overweight and have PCOS myself. From what I understand we gain weight because our pancreas (i think) can't process sugar and make insulin. They have medication for it, Metformin. I took it but i just couldn't deal with it making me sick if i had too much sugar and being nauseaus. But my friend also has PCOS and she took it, lost weight and had a baby boy a year later. I've notice that whenever a doctor sees a patient who is over weight we don't have real problems and the answer is to lose weight. Get a second opinion and BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!

Okay...a buddy for any kind of weight loss is great...as we all know, losing the weight is EXTREMELY difficult...I tried at home cardio workouts (lost about 5 pounds...then stalled)...joined Curves (went 4-5 times a week on top of the at home workouts and lost about 5 more pounds)...then...I was fed up with all the hardwork and NO change on the scale...so, I joined a "regular gym, got a trainer, and set out to get healthy...after 7 months, I have only lost 10 more pounds, but here is the kicker...I HAVE LOST 7% body fat...the key you might ask??? I have added a significant amount of muscle which helps with use of all the free floating glucose us PCOS girls have...In addition to the weight lifting, I changed my diet for a month and a half and lost 5 pounds...SUGAR is poison to us...be wary of the refined carbohydrates and ADD the protein in...it seems, a little cardio, lots of weight lifting and a healthy diet have been the ticket for me...I have 2 beautiful boys...both times I tried to conceive, I had to lose weight, NOT because the doctor said to...I just made the choice that it would put me in a better place...I lost about 40 pounds before baby one (I had been trying for over a year and a half to conceive), and then, magic I was pregers...baby number to was a bit more difficult, again waiting over a year and a half, I spent time trying to lose weight, I lost my previous baby weight and again, magic, I was pregers again...SO, WEIGHT LOSS will help...but, the CATCH IS...it takes us 2-3 times longer when compared to others...STICK WITH YOUR PLAN AND KNOW THAT IT WILL PAY OFF...

I used to be overweight also until I went to the doctor who also told me that I needed to lose weight. This is not only because it increases your chances of conceiving but also when you do ensures that you are healthy and that your body is prepared for pg and decreases your chances of gestational diabetes and pg induced hypertension! I am a total advocate for losing weight - I now have a normal BMI and have just founded out I am 6 weeks pg and looking forward to a healthy pg! Good luck to you, it takes work but can be done!!

my weight has always fluctuated unfortuntely but recently I have gone up to about 190lbs (Yicks) =( this is the most I have ever weighed... When I asked my doctor about my chances of getting pregnant (I've been on birth control since I was 13 and I'm now 20) he said that my chances will be better is I lose my extra weight. He also said that when you weigh more and you have PCOS you have a higher chance of having a miscarriage with the extra weight.

I'm here for you. When I was diagnosed with PCOS, I lost 30 lbs (after the dr. told me I had to lose weight). I got my periods back regularly. I noticed that if I gain weight, my periods stop and my PCOS gets out of control. I am trying to lose more weight, so if you want a buddy, I'm here! Let me know!

I know this is an old post but I'm overweight for my height. I'm trying to shed it, but it's a slow process. All I can say is keep going if you still need encouragement.

I'm 5 '7" 29. years old and I weighed about 200 last year I'm down to 155 now. I should start working out more but I really just changed my eating habits... I ate sugar every night for years on years including diet soda and red bull !!!! just killing my body junk food.. processed food all that. .. I cut out sugar all the way and started eating much healthier... it's even good for your insulin levels to fast sometimes ... which is hard for me but it has helped soo o much. I also stopped taking spirolactrone and I just take saw palmetto .. zinc and magnesium.. it's helped soo o much you have no idea. the weight around my belly is still there I went from like a 32 to a 28 but I feel so much healthier. ... cut out the sugar!!!!!
