I did it back in 2006 and I think I had 2 weeks off but I only really needed one week.

cerealmom, what were the results? was it worth it? did it help with pain, etc? would you do it again?

I have to something. My pain is getting harder to control. I don't hurt in one spot. However the worst of the pain does come from the same kidney. My cysts are the huge external type.

My nephrologist thinks the surgeon might also be able to denerve my kidney(s) at the same time. Has anyone here had them done at the same time? I thought they did that through the chest.

I visit with the surgeon again in a couple weeks after some more tests.

I had the cysts scraped four times and it gave me about a year of reduced pain each time. We discussed denerving the kidney, but by the time we were talking about this the kidney was shot.

When I first woke up from surgery each time, it was pretty sore, but I healed quickly, left the hospital with a drain for several days but got back on feet within a week or so.

From what I understood, it is not very common that doctors can do this surgery that many times because each time scar tissue is created, but for some reason, I didn't have scar tissue develop. Also, each time it was done laprascopically, with three tiny holes.

I fought against this procedure for some time. I finally gave in and are letting them do it.

I seem to hear that it works more than it doesn't. It is typically doe laprascopically and causes some scaring which complifies kindy removal don the road.

I VERY much eventually want laprascopic removals of my kidneys. He knows my wishes. It will be interesting down the road whether he can actually pull them out laprascopically. I will be very PO'd if he can't. I don't want the risk of an open procedure.

I don't know the size of your kidneys they will be removing, but I will share that my right was about the size of football, maybe a little bigger and they removed it laprascopically.

I so hope you find some relief. Constant pain is so taxing on our bodies.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. When the doc scraped mine he also did a denervation. It helped with the pain for a little over a year but now I have as much pain as ever, probably even more, sorry to say. I am told you can only do the denervation once. I don't know about the scraping. My kidneys still work (39%) but I find myself sometimes wishing they didn't so I could have them removed. Constant pain totally sucks. I am working on trying to do a medical retirement and I am only 55.

Do you hurt somewhere other than your kidneys? I thought after deserving them, your kidneys couldn't feel pain and your blood pressure drops.
