Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.

You could look at your challenge a different way - how to maximise the life of your kidneys beyond the age of 75 so that you never need a transplant/dialysis. With good care, the right diet etc this may be perfectly possible. Also, you're looking ahead 20 years and that's a long time. So much can change in that time, it's not really something you can easily plan for. You're at risk of spending 20 years worrying and eroding your quality of life as a result. It doesn't follow that you will be the same as your mother and other relatives. You have been diagnosed earlier and care is better than it used to be. I would concentrate on preserving your kidneys and you may never need renal replacement therapy at all.
