Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
Not gaining much weight during the holidays is hard, maintaining the same weight during the holidays is almost impossible, losing any weight during the holidays is really impossible, and you lost 4 pounds? Very good work.
Actually, loosing weight at a rate of more that about 1 to 2 pounds per week is not supposed to be healthy (it doesnt sound like much but its about the weight loss recommendation by most doctors).
And you have lost 52 pounds? Very good.
As you loose extra fluid, which is lost early and easier, it gets harder to loose weight, and the loss weight gets slower as you are actually burning fat. It takes a lot of effort for the body to loose fat.
Never mind your doctor, you have lost a lot of weight and are looking great. You should be proud of yourself.
BTW, I hope you are doing well in dialysis.

I think a 52 pound weight loss is fabulous, especially as you continued to lose weight over the holidays! Even your picture shows a slimmer, happier face!
Slow and steady weight loss is the safest, healthiest way to lose weight and keep it off and you can't afford those fly-by-night nonsense fad diets. You are already in kidney failure, so maintaining your health is critical.
About doctors pressing on your sides, the rule with PKD is HANDS OFF. Do not let the doctor touch, no matter what "his medical highness" thinks he can do (I like the Mr. Picky Doctor as a name...Dr. Picky Pants would work as well). I have been told to never let anyone touch my kidneys or liver; just the pushing and poking not only causes more pain but can actually rupture cysts. He owes you explanations, not dull stares and negative statements about your weight or nothing about how you're doing in terms of kidney function. Next time, ask to have an attendant in the room with you; that might help straighten out it attitude or at least get him to play it straight with you, if not everyone else. You always have the right to have a female medical attendant present when there will be any physical exam, regardless how personal or intimate.
You're doing fabulous, so keep up the great work!
Lots of hugs and congratulations!!

Don't let anyone, especially the doctors, get you down.
:)
Keep up the good work!
ditto to leaving your kidneys alone during an exam. your doctor knows you have PKD, what does he expect to learn by poking and prodding?
God Bless,
K~
