Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
I would like to thank all of you that have replied to my entries, I am sorry that I do not
have all the facts as yet as I have not to long
ago discovered my PKD. I went to the doctor
for my physical two years ago and was told then
that my kidney function came back a little low,
and doctor suggested that I have a ultrasound
done on my kidneys. Well at that time my husband
was having a heart valve replaced and I did not
have the time to take care of my problem. However, last year I again went to my GP and when
the results came back it was still not right
if i recall the number was 40, so he suggested
I have the ultrasound, which I did and so the
story begins. I went to visit a nephrologist here
in town, who was very encouraging. I have an
appointment to see him in March at which time I
hope I will be able to find out some more information. At this time I do have a slight
pain occasionally on my sides, the left more than
the right, but it does not last long nor keep me from sleeping. Other than that I have no other
syptoms except those you get from getting older.
I am thankful for all your input, I am learning
alot by reading your postings. I am quite optimistic regarding myself. I have a supportive
husband who keeps me from getting to down. I am
an optimist by nature and though I may have sounded not to be it may just have been to my
inexperience in this arena. Again thank you all for your support and help. I hope we will continue to help each other..
