Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
This also may come across as I'm now judging you ShastaSue sorry LOLOL I dont mean too, I think this is all a different mode of thinking, and you're coming at it from a different angle. I hope my example made sense LOL

Journalling, a practice I strongly resisted at first (My first few entries look like, "I have nothing to write I hate this my therapist is making me do it...") It turned out to be the best thing for me.
Being forced out of the relationship by outside forces, i.e. CPS. The social worker came to me at one point and held me by the shoulders, looked into my eyes, and said, "YOU ARE BEING ABUSED. Not just your kids. YOU." I never considered it before that. It put a name to it and galvanized me.
Irene's Clarifying Card Index gave me so much perspective and help. I was even able to introduce it to our judge.
