Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
for survivors of
emotional abuse.
But they're in Connecticut,
not anywhere close to you.
Groups can definitely help.
Hold on and hold out for support.
I'm in therapy right now, but worry about being able to continue it in the future, since I will lose my present health insurance soon when the divorce is final.
Ilene,
Do you recommend calling a shelter and asking if they have support groups for primarily emotional/verbal/mental abuse?
llene-I wish it was easy to find one here. I did a few searches and found a few shelter type places in this area and I hope they have some recommendations or can point me in the right direction.
Jillie-things are becoming more and more screwed up in the world when some people can't get the help they need. I understand the lack of funding or having problems with places to meet even but if there is a will there is a way.
I'm crossing my fingers that I am able to find something. Anything would be better than with the too much time on my hands. I've been making some plans for the summer. My kids go their dad's for most of the summer so I've been making plans with my mom to go on a few trips. Get away and try to let go a little.
Healing Emotionally Abused Lives
support circles
I tried to establish them
in partnership with the
centers that were overseen
by my state's coalition against d.v.
I found, to my astonishment,
that my specific focus on
emotional abuse
wasn't always welcomed.
One center director seemed
to feel threatened by the
specific focus and
offended that I was suggesting
that survivors who weren't actually
pushed down a flight of stairs or
had to be hospitalized
weren't always feeling
welcomed or even entitled
to the center's services.
I was told that
OF COURSE
survivors of primarily
emotional abuse were
totally entitled and
always welcomed
into the groups that
were already set up.
But I was already talking
to LOTS of survivors of
primarily emotional abuse
and I KNEW this to
NOT be the case.
That's WHY I launched
the support circles that
I did, through HEAL.
I urge all who need support
to access whatever groups
you can find, wherever they're
offered. If it's through a d.v. center,
then know that YOU'RE ENTITLED.
If you don't feel included or supported,
fight for what you need, until you're
able to get it.
Please feel free to PM me
and we'll see what you can do.
Thankfully, I'm not in desperate need of a group for my own healing, I seem to get all the support I need right here when I am having issues. However, it still would have been nice to have one available when I did need it. So, I'm inspired to start one. Unfortunately, it would be a little unfair to start a project like that and then move away 3 months later. I guess I'm just going to have to wait. Everything happens for a reason in my world these days.
