After so many years of abuse and mistreatment, I know it's easy to look at humankind a little differently, to see evil lurking in places we never would have seen it before. I know I am one who is guilty of looking at the world through rose colored glasses....seeing good in people that often turns out to be sadly misguided. I often get crapped on for my navet. However, tonight something incredible happened that really made me cry, not in sadness but because it showed me that most people are good. It was sort of a reminder.

So, my youngest daughter needed poster board for a school project tonight. In a very rare occurrence, I actually have money left from my check, so we headed to walmart after work. My gas light was on so I had to get gas first. I prefer to take the money I need out of the ATM machine so I have one transaction to write, unless I have a lot of shopping to do.

Put in my card and pin, message pops up saying access restricted. I try again, same thing. I decide, must be something wrong with the machine (after checking my balance of course), so I decide to pay at the pump. Same thing. So I go inside, yet again the transaction is declined. Thankfully I happened to have $20 on me, so I pay cash and call the bank. Long story short, my debit card has been compromised. They close the card and tell me to use my checks.

Get enough stuff to tide us over til the new card comes in, talking to the lady at register telling her what happened, she runs check...won't take it. Push cart to side, call bank back, they act as baffled as I am. Manager, a young boy we see in there quite often, tries himself to get it to go through. Again, declined. I resign myself to fact that I can only get the $3 poster board tonight. He comes around and runs his card (I thought he was canceling the transaction, turns out he PAID for it!!!)

At first I tried to tell him no, but thank you, then the older woman cashier says "honey if he didn't I was going to". I just thanked them and burst into tears. I will certainly pay him back when I can access my money again, and I'm not sure how to survive until that card comes in, but damn I am just so impressed that there really are decent people. I wasn't just a foolish idiot:)
