How do you get out of a relationship

I have been w/ my boyfriend for about 2 yrs. And lately I really haven't been happy. I have put up w/ a lot from him, and lately I have just been so tired of it. I am really too embarrassed to describe the stuff I have put up w/. I give him money, he tells me he talks to other girls, he puts me down a lot. And I know its just not something a girl should put up w/ or anybody. I just can't seem to let him go. I did once for about a month and a half and I missed him so much and ended up going back........ I just want to get the strength to let him go... I do love him very much even after all the stuff he has done to me, but I just know this is not a good relationship. Any advice?

Meg, I'm going to talk to you like I would my daughter. I read your journal and not only is this guy abusive to you, he has given you STDs. He takes your money, talks to other girls...what is it that you love about him? He is screwing with you mentally, emotionally, and physically AND financially. If you do not get away from him, you will suffer for the rest of your life from the effects of this relationship. Believe me sweetie when I say, broken hearts heal and usually very quickly when you are young. You should be out having fun rather than worring about this guy and what he is going to do next. Drop him like a bad habit.

I love my stbx too. I would love to have a great relationship with him. But it isn't possible!!!! I can drive myself nuts and get hurt and abused, or I can leave and find someone who truly loves me. There aren't any other choices. He isn't going to change - so I need to decide what I am going to do for me.
I want love - real love, with a partner who respects and cares about me. I don't want to go through the hard times of life totally alone anymore. So I chose to leave. Incredibly difficult, yes. But I know I am better off.

You need to harden yourself to what his response will be when you tell him your done. That is the first thing, because it sounds as though you already know you need to leave. When I left my abusive husband, my sister did a wonderful thing for me. She burned a cd, with all woman-power songs: Respect by Aretha Franklin, I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, etc.- it may sound corney, but I listened to it whenever I could and replayed some of the words in my head when he threw his temper-tantrums, etc. It really helped me stay strong.
