Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I never disclose exactly what I do here, as there aren't too many people in my field. However, I do have experience in real estate law.
If you are in the United States, many states have landlord laws that allow someone to break a lease with 30 days notice if a family member will be the one occupying the rental property. I understand that money may be tight, if not completely inaccessible, but what your mom legally can do is give your husband 30 days notice while you live elsewhere, and then allow you to move in for one month while she locates other tenants (should she need the additional income). It is in compliance with the law and would get him out. Also, she doesn't have to tell him who... She could say it is a relative, ect.
I know it isn't ideal, but I have to agree, most of us end up being the ones to leave.
I didn't live with my ex, but he held my things hostage during many of our break-ups. During our last and final split, He made it almost impossible for me to even leave his house. There was a physical altercation (that I have never told anyone about) that ensued. I wished I had never told him I was leaving.
When it is time to leave, just go. It is safest that way. Have all your ducks in a row (as much as they can be) and leave.
You have us for all the support you may need!!! :)
