Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
You might even be putting yourself in danger because if she told him, it could set him off.
It might be safer to keep the recording safely hidden (along with any other evidence) until you are ready to leave him, just in case you need the evidence for purposes of legal action or restraining orders.
During an incident of abuse at my house, my daughter called 911 because she feared for my safety. My ex left the house before the police arrived. A few minutes later ex's mother left a message on my answer machine saying " if he kills himself this is On your head and no one else's head" in her nasty voice. (Cuz he always threatened to kill himself). Guess it never crossed her mind... "Jeez what did he do to cause her to dial 911?"
Keep the recording to get a restraining order. You'll need evidence. Collect as much as you can.
I called my SIL and told her that mine had hit me right after he did it. I was shaking and crying, and she couldn't have missed it in my voice. But she went straight to the family line: "What did YOU do to make him?" And none of them ever deviated from that viewpoint or helped me.
I later found out that he had hit his other sister before, and they were all in denial about his abusiveness and also that of their father, so I could take a running jump if I thought I was going to convince them of the truth when it happened to me.
This could backfire in so many ways that would pose MASSIVE risk to you. I think you would be tons better off hiding and saving it for legal proceedings. Hugs xxx
Also, keep the recordings for any evidence in the future, but make sure you talk to a lawyer because I know in some places it's illegal to record someone without their prior permission.
