Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Hang in there and know you have a right to feel any emotion. You, and only you, though, have control over how you respond to life's downs.
I wish you healing, precious soul.
I know what it's like to censor myself and not allow myself the right to speak up.
Your mother was wrong to say those things to you. A healthy mother would have expressed concern and urged you to work on your social life without turning it into a shame and blame guilt session.
If you're interested, there is a support group on here for shyness. (http://dailystrength.org/c/Shyness/support-group)
Yes, you do have to take care of yourself (and responsibility for yourself). But it is okay to acknowledge that your mother is partly responsible for your difficulty in talking to people. And it is okay to still remember and have pain from the past. It's okay to remember the past. Just don't allow your past imprison you. Does that make sense?
I am glad you are working on talking to people. You should be proud of yourself for that.
*hugs*
