My neighbor is taking herself and her son to a shelter due to the fact her husband is abusive.

However she does not want to leave her cat. I am trying to find a shelter or services that can help her out as soon as possible.

It is really hard to leave a pet. There are a few shelters that either allow pets or make arrangements for the pets to be fostered.

You might call your local animal shelter and/or other pet rescue organizations in your area and ask about the possibility of fostering the cat.

I hope that your neighbor, her son & her cat will be safe.

Thanks MyTrueColors. I called quite a few places. The closest I could get was an organization called Red Rover who provides grant money so owners can house and foster their pets until they get on their feet.

But all I could reach their in the evening was a 24/7 consoling line. Also hoping they call back during business hours.

Also URI NYC helps house pets and their owners escaping domestic violence. But they are in New York of course

Hard choices.

A coworker had to turn her dog in when she went through an abusive divorce. My kids would have really really loved the dog, and it would have been perfect...but I just couldn't do it. Heck, I would have loved to have just kept the dog for her if I could have. (Her own children were heartbroken.)
