Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Every night, when I lived with him, at least the last 5 years...when I went to bed, my heart would be pounding in my chest. Beating irregularly. I prayed every night that I would not have a heart attack before morning, because I was terrified of leaving my son to fend for himself with his father. We had no insurance, so I never went to a dr about it, because we had no money to pay a dr.
The first night I left....the very first night...that stopped. And it has never come back.
I've been out 5 years now. I haven't even had a cold in over 2 years.
Yeah, your health gets better. STress creates all kind of health problems. Dangerous ones. Not having someone trying to steal your soul every minute of every day is a real boost to your health.
It was so hard to sleep near a monster!
While I was with him, I started getting all kinds of problems.
I got things like pink eye and ear infections -- hadn't had that stuff since I was a child! It got to the point that I always had either a cold, a pink eye, laryngitis, headaches, a bladder infection, or a flu. Always.
He was almost never sick, but would give me his sweat suit to wear, to "sweat out" the illness. I remember wearing that thing for weeks.
STRANGELY, once I left I wasn't sick at all. Not even a cold for 3 months. But I was extremely stressed, and I could feel my body was just trying to hold it together.
I did start getting sick again recently, but I think just due to all the stress needing to get out. (just signed the divorce stuff too).
I do believe that once I'm fully over it, I will be perfectly healthy again.
I also had that heart beating thing before bed. I would instantly feel anxiety when I tried to sleep. I used to ask him to just say the words "It will be ok" to me. So he'd repeat it like a parrot, and I'd try to believe it.
Now I never have to repeat anything like that, even when things are bad.
It was always being in that state of fear.
I was being bullied at work. The "in" person made anyone who did not go along and worship them a living nightmare.
It was always "innocent" jokes and sarcastic comments. When I mentioned they were hurtful I was accused of being "sensitive". Then the person gossiped with someone. I did not sleep more than 4 hours a night for three weeks until I quit.
Stress like that is really bad. Ever heard of the Monday morning heart attacks?
