OMG, I just got back from lunch and heard this and am horrified.

This is horrifying. My sons grew up there. My prayers go out to those families. He went in and murdered his mother and her kindergarten class. Heartbreaking

The photos of the kids being led out of the school - cowlicked hair, shoes untied, just like typical cute little kids. You know they are traumatized. It's one those images that makes you wonder how life can go on for the rest of us.

I don't recognize the world we live in any more. What happened to us?

This inconceivablle chaos took place
in a tiny, quaint little New England town
25 miles from where I grew up.

So far, nobody on the media
is talking about what seems
obvious to me, from the little
we know so far.

What is suspected so far is that
a 24 year-old man killed his father
in New Jersey and then came to
the school where his mother
teaches kindegarden in
Connecticut. And then he
is suspected to have shot
his mother, the principal,
several other adults,
twenty small children. . .
and possibly someone else
at his mother's home.

Connect the dots and to
me. . . it seems to be
another instance of
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

If that's true, it's a case
that has spilled far beyond
the confines of the
immediate family, taking
the lives of twenty
innocent children.

I can't write any more,
just now. The enormity
and the proximity to my
childhood home and
my present home. . .
and my own
dysfunctional home. . . . .

with my own deranged sibling. . . . .

it's all too close to my own life.

It'a all too much.

(And yes. . . . it's reported
that there were three guns
found at the scene.)

What the hell is wrong with peole !?!?

I ran into a friend today and we were talking about the bad behaviours of people and we hadn't heard the need of this shooting yet til I got home an hour ago. My God I'm speechless!
All I can do right now is shake my head !!!!!

Ilene....I'm so sorry for your pain. For all of us who have experienced someone even on the fringes of that kind of insanity. As you know, I live not all that far from you, or from Newtown, and it is completely inconceivable, really. I have been crying all day, it is too close, too huge.

I think that it's close for all of us though. To shoot the smallest, weakest, most defenseless of us. It's just not fathomable for the human psyche to absorb.

Someone, I don't know who it was, maybe Marianne Williamson, maybe the Dalai Lama said, we HAVE to restructure our society so that it's based on love and compassion, instead of greed and anger and FEAR.

I just can't stop crying. Our collective heart is breaking.

This is the first i have heard of this because I've been at work and haven't watched any television since I got home.
It is horrific and very sad. Somehow I suspect that the shooter's sense of shame was severely triggered by someone, possibly one of his parents or both. Shame and embarrassment will trigger rage and to someone who has never dealt with their inner shamen and rage, having it triggered intentionally through abuse, can cause someone who is unbalanced and unstable to act out, to want to destry those responsible as well as themselves.
Chances are noone will ever know the the details of what occured prior to the shooting. And chances are IF one or both of his parents abused him, noone will ever hear about that either.
I'm not excusing what he did, I just think in cases like that there is usually things going on in the life of the perpetratot that involve embarrassment and shame and many times abuse as well but abusive parents who have a good standing in their community will continue to have their reputation protected regardless of rather or not they were abusers towards their children or not.
It is possible he had the perfect home life and was never abused but imo it is very doubtful.
I wish there was a way things like this could be prevented from happening.

And those guns were reported to be automatic weapons.

I am already in the process of contacting my state & US representatives to urge them to ban automatic weapons; create stricter gun control & more effective DV laws and then actually enforce those laws.

I think this country has lost sight of the spirit of the 2nd amendment and it is way past time for us to start PROTECTING our citizens, especially our children.

We DO have a voice and NOW is the time to use it!!! I hope you (yes, that means you who are reading this) will look contact your elected officials and urge them to stop the insanity right now.

I agree that assault rifles need to be banned to the general public. They are not needed. BUT somehow I suspect that someone who is sick enough and determined enough will find a way to commit horrific acts. So I think writing to your local representatives about banning assult rifles is a good one, I think writing to them about creating and enforcing the laws concerning publically shaming and humiliating someone primarily through exposure of taped private moments, needs to be a priority too although in this particular case, the perpetrator was not known to have been publically shamed and embarrassed. Another thing is if you know someone who shows signs of anger and rage don't automatically assume that things are fine at home just because their parents or spouse seems to be upstanding citizens. Consider the possibility that they aren't and that they may be abusive. Then reach out and get to know all of them and offer to help any way you can.

The whole thing is just tragic. What could have possibly encouraged this man to do something like this?

I'm in the UK and I've been crying, I absolutely love kids, I'm so protective over kids, all kids, any kids so when things like this happen I just wish I could have protected them all, I know that isn't possible but how I wish that it could have been prevented some how!

See this is why I said that guns in the US need to be made illegal like in UK. This happens far too much in US were idiots go into schools and kill kids!

Something isn't right with the law on guns! It's taken time in the UK but they have cracked down on guns, ok perhaps it could still happen but it's all about the statistics and likely hood, it's less likely to happen the harder it is to get a gun and the harsher the laws, also confiscating guns and destroying them! That's what happened here!
