Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I'm honored and gratified that
you found the Clarifying Index Card exercise
so valuable.
Back when. . . I developed it for myself,
to enable me to through one of the
many periods of confusion and
ambiguity that I went through
on my journey out of an
emotionally abusive marriage.
After I separated, I found myself
returning to the cards, over and over,
to be able to keep moving forward.
And years after that experience,
I reused the exercise (not the
same cards), to sort out other
relationships.
That's when I began sharing it
with others, here on DS, as
well as my clients.
There are similar ways to arrive
at clarity, including making lists
and journaling. I'm not putting
any other method down. I,
myself, use anything and
everything that helps empower
me. But what differentiates this
method from others, is that we
can see visually and tactilely,
the stack of cards piling up.
This is different than pages
in a journal or words in a
list on a page. Each card
makes an incident individual
and separate. In effect, it
gives weight, dignity and
importance to our experience.
It's too bad that any of us end up
needing something like the exercise,
to come to clarity about people in our
lives. But since we do. . . I hope it helps.
I'm glad you found it effective
and I'm glad that you think
enough of it, to recommend it.
