Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Please know I am thinking of you.
I wish you nothing but the best!
Check out Sandra Brown's website. She wrote the book "Women who love psychopaths". (Yeah, I am one of those, too.) One of the missions of her institute is to educate the public, and especially mental health professionals, about the so-called Cluster B personality disorders. She sends out a newletter via email which has some great pointers about taking care of yourself after a pathological love relationship. One series is called "Living the Gentle Life", which is pretty much what we have to aim for, in my opinion, to feel safe and balanced in our lives after such craziness.
But the reality is, as Finally said, you're not stupid and nor am I. We were conned. They dangled our dreams in front of us and so we ignored the "little" things. And later, we worked out the "little" things weren't so little after all and the dreams they dangled were never going to materialise.
Every one of us here has ignored, minimised, excused away or missed some pretty obvious clues to the fact we were being treated badly or going to be treated badly. That's the nature of an abusive relationship. The signs are there if we know what to look for and have the courage of our conviction that we are worth treating with love, kindness and respect always. So in fact, that's the good news. Because we can learn to be more aware of these signs, and more confident in our knowledge that we do NOT have to put up with those "little" things.
You're not stupid. You're learning. :-)
