Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Do your parents or caregivers know about this violence?
If not, then tell them. If they don't take steps to protect you, then you need to go to someone in school or at church and tell them that your brother has hurt you physically and has come at you with a baseball bat.
I'm not trying to get your brother into trouble.
I'm hoping that getting someone will step in and help you both.
I'm really concerned for your safety. The fact that you mention he is ADD/ADHD and questionably bipolar, is a huge red flag and based on what you have said, it is clear that some sort of intervention is required, very, very soon.
I think like you ... If he's already punching/hurting you, then that is unacceptable. And, as he is now threatening you with a baseball bat, then it is quite likely the day will come when he will use that baseball bat, or something else that comes to hand. I am afraid he is going to seriously injure you.
So, get out there, start advocating for yourself if your parents don't get it and won't do the job for you.
I admire you. You are only 14 and you had the courage to find this site and post. That shows a lot of courage. Come back to this site and post again, if you need more encouragement and support. That's what we're hear for.
By the way, whenever your brother gets like this, and if your parents aren't available to help, for your own safety, leave the house. Let your parents know where you have gone. Go to a trusted friend's house (who lives nearby), go to a trusted neighbours house, until someone can step in to help you.
I forgot to mention.
My do know of this. My mom has been taking him to a parents psychiatrist and phycologist for about 2 years now, trying different medications and methods of therapy.
I have been going with him to some sessions and talking about it. But sometimes it gets too much for him and he blocks it out and goes to sleep, in the middle of the session.
Next year, I will be going to a boarding school, partially to get away from him. I just need to survive the next few months. Not even, because i will be going to sleepaway camp and wont be seeing him there.
It always gets worse when we are stressed out, and finals are coming up and I dont know how thats going to affect him.
I have an older sister, who gets abusive when she needs to get him away, but it just angers him more. My mom doesnt know what to do , because all the medication isnt working, that well. It has gotten better, but its still pretty bad. And my dad works late, so when he comes, my brother is usually calmed down.
leonll- same with my brother and I ! but its not the next day, its like 20 minutes later ! and thn he gets mad at me for not accepting my apology. then i feel bad, but i dont want to make it seem like what he did is forgivable or acceptable in any way. there have been too many times where i would have to put on pounds of makeup to comer the bruises he has given me.
Also there is a mental scar that he has left me. One, to see that a what seems like a sweet 14 year old boy, can do so much harm, is just, astounding. And its not just him. The realization that this ability is within all of us, thats what made me scared. I am scared for what i would do back for self defense.
I have already kicked him in the chin while he was coming at me and made his mouth bleed. I felt so bad. and to realize that he had done so much more to me, and still to this day, will say that i deserved it. Not one ounce of regret.
Another mental scar he has left me is all those names and comments he has said. My self esteem has dropped tremendously since his behavior has gotten worse. I try everything to bring it back up, but every time i hear his voice in the back of my mind saying things and it just brings me lower. It shouldnt, and Im not a very sensitive person, but just when he says it, I sort of believe what he is saying.
I will definitely keep you all posted and thanks so much for the responses, it truly means a lot.
