Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
Hello!
I'm more or less new here. I sighed up awhile ago, attempted to post a couple times but chickened out. I thought my writing was rambling or unclear. So I am posting an introduction while I am feeling clear headed.
I am blessed and have a good life. It isn't always easy, sometimes past trauma comes back and brings me down. This is especially hard when I am alone as an at-home mom. I go to therapy, see a doctor and cut all ties of my abusive past, including many family members, which has helped. Even though I was detoxing a lot of bad energy., forgotten memories and trauma, sometimes laying me in bed for days, things were improving enormously. I built connections through my community, joined local clubs that helped with liter, children's town holiday parties, and many other activities that benefited my neighbors and my personal life. Giving to my community made things right and my mental health was improving.
Then my emotionally abusive ex comes to town.
This is the most recent challenge and reason why I signed up on Daily Strength. My emotionally abusive ex re-emerged in my life by a very strange and very unlikely coincidence.
The whole thing got me up-a-tree, watching my back, investigating while under the radar, I was on edge and put me in very sad and vulnerable moments. Living in a small community as an active member did not help. My name was in the local paper, people knew who I was, they knew my ambitions regarding community projects. I was like a fish in a barrel, once spotted easy to be watched.
After a year, evidence around me told me my ex had successfully infiltrated my social life. Rumors, whispers, people stopped talking to me, unfriending me on fb. I realized how weak my connections were to my new home, the one I formed after leaving my abusive family. And I knew that if my ex knew this, he would enjoy every moment of it. I remember how hateful he was when someone he disagreed with in the slightest was suffering, "OH!" he revel hearing the offenders bad news, "THIS pleases me!" Hearing this voice in my head, I was becoming depressed again. After 10 years of recovering from his past grief he was winning again.
So we moved!!
It's been healthy to have a fresh start. But still the transition was hard, I lost my community, my semi replacement family, but I am learning to let go.
Later I will post more details about my ex and my family under "ask for advice." For now I thought I'd introduce myself and share my back story. I am lucky, I have a supportive family I married into, healthy children. I feel clear headed and at the moment safe. We constantly google our names to make sure our new address doesn't show on people finder sites and scramble to remove them when we appear, begging various websites to please(!) take down our information.
When my ex's malicious voice comes to mind, I remind myself all the good things I gained since moving out of my ex's apartment so long ago. As I attempted to move out many times, he said things that were meant to stick. It's a real uphill battle, but none-the-less I'm continuing up. I hope this forum can help me continue progress.

Welcome to the group - I'm pretty new around here too and look forward to learning from you. There are some really wise, compassionate posters here who have helped me a ton :)
